Roland Emmerich deja por un momento su faceta más conocida, la de destructor de mundos, y se embarca en una cinta histórico-conspirativa que gira alrededor de la idea de que la obra literaria de William Shakespeare no la escribió en realidad William Shakespeare, sino otro autor que, por diversos motivos, permanece todavía en el anonimato.

 

El punto de partida es interesante y no es la primera vez que en el cine se deja caer esta idea. Sin embargo hay gente (sin ningún sentido del humor) a la que no le ha gustado nada que se toque a Shakespeare, una de las cumbre de la literatura occidental de todos los tiempos, a pesar de que el género especulativo, bien llevado, resulta muchas veces refrescante si aúna fantasía y realidad histórica de forma verosímil y acertada.

 

Desgraciadamente Anonymous no pasará a la historia por ello ya que Emmerich está demasiado ocupado con relatar ciertas historias de amor e intrigas palaciegas en el marco de la casa real inglesa de finales del siglo XVI y principios del XVII. Una empresa muy loable si no fuese por una narración a ratos confusa a la que no ayuda nada la extensión (más de dos horas) de la cinta que además deja fuera de juego en buena parte del metraje lo que parecía que iba a ser la tesis central del film.

 

 

 

Emmerich recrea con un presupuesto ajustado la Inglaterra de la época y lo hace de forma acertada, sin grandes alardes pero con un vestuario y unos detalles estudiados y creando espacios interesantes que terminarán por resultar familiares al espectador, como el teatro donde transcurre parte de la acción. Los actores principales, tanto la Reina Isabel (interpretada por Vanessa Redgrave) como el conde de Oxford (Rhys Ifans) que es, según esta versión, el verdadero autor de los escritos atribuidos a Shakespeare, cumplen con el tono y los personajes, así como destaca entre los secundarios Edward Hogg dando vida a Robert Cecil, aunque no consigan levantar por sí mismos una trama que peca de lenta y a la que a ratos le cuesta avanzar.

 

A pesar de lo contenido esta vez de la propuesta Emmerich no es capaz de dominarse y nos regala un par de momentos apoteósicos y excesivos que sacarán de la historia al más pintado, siendo el favorito de cualquier amante del rock and roll el momento en el que Shakespeare, habiendo convencido a todo el mundo de que los textos son suyos, se da un baño de masas al finalizar una representación; y lo hace literalmente, con eso que los angloparlantes llaman “stage diving” que no es otra cosa que lanzarse al público tras una actuación. Tremendo.
